We have a blue heeler that's about his height but heavier than Skippy and a dachshund. He gets along with both, but really seems to enjoy playing with the little dog more. He is good at reading their moods and goes with the flow, plays if they want and leaves them alone if they want. No problems with guarding food or toys. He appears to be house broken, one accident the first night he was here and none since. He doesn't know any commands. He will lay down in his kennel on his own sometimes, but won't go their on command. He doesn't whine or cry when he's shut in the kennel for the night. The only cat he's been around was at the vet, and he completely ignored it. Seems to be good with kids, my 9 year old step son loves playing with him. I haven't had him around young kids, but I know he's good with older children. He wants to be involved in anything your doing and frequently follows me from room to room. He doesn't dislike men by any means, but seems to prefer women. He hasn't had any problems getting around despite his leg. It took him a day or so to adjust to the hardwood but he's got the hang of it now. He never had problems on carpet. He likes to lick. He does it when you pet him and to ask for attention. He even licks me when I'm changing his bandage or checking out his incision. He doesn't 'get' toys very much, but tries to copy our dogs and is starting to enjoy balls. He does good on a leash, haven't had any problems with pulling. He will bark to try and alert you to something or if the neighbor's dog is out when he goes potty. He doesn't bark excessively and has only barked in the house when someone knocked at the door. He has yet to meet a stranger, he loves anyone and everyone.
